ROCK LEGEND PAUL MCCARTNEY IN FARGO, ND. WE SALUTE YOU!
| September 30, 2019Between 1960 and the band’s breakup in 1970, McCartney performed on twelve studio albums and wrote or co-wrote some of the most popular songs in pop music history, including “Yesterday,” which is the most-covered song in the world and has been played over seven million times on American television and radio. After 1970, McCartney pursued a solo career, as well as with the band Wings from 1971 to 1981; he has released twenty-two studio pop albums and five classical albums since the breakup of the Beatles. McCartney is also known for his political and social activism, including work for animal rights and against genetically modified foods and land mines.
McCartney married photographer and animal rights activist Linda Eastman (later Linda McCartney) in 1969; the couple had four children and remained married until her death in 1998. He married Heather Mills in 2002, and the two had a daughter, but they divorced in 2008. On October 9th, 2011 Paul McCartney married Nancy Shevell. McCartney remains one of the most respected and loved musicians in the world and still records new music.
On July 12, 2014, I was lucky enough to attend the Paul McCartney concert at the Fargo Dome in Fargo, ND. As the show was to start at 8:00 PM, I arrived close the Dome at 7:00 pm and parked at the last available lot 6 blocks away. Upon coming close to the stadium, there was a line as long as the front of the building itself consisting of a large Mecca of fans from multiple generations. Being a world traveler, I have honestly not encountered this many people gathered in one building before in my life. The spectators numbered close to 18,000 fans in the sold out arena! Achieving the role of “Highest Paid Musician Of All Time” by the Guinness Book of World Records 3 decades ago , I was surprised how down to earth and personable Mr. McCartney was with his North Dakota audience. Paul McCartney is living proof that fame and notoriety does not change those who embrace the most important gift to mankind…Nature. The music was absolutely phenomenal as the concert was like watching a time machine through the ages. He played 38 songs and every instrument except for the drums.
Lets face it, when you come from a farm in south central North Dakota and your favorite rock idol is playing near your home town, this is one concert not to miss. Unlike the generations of the last 10 years, I consider myself lucky to come from a generation where good rock and roll music was commonplace, even on the AM radio. An opportunity I thank my family for is KFYR Radio, Bismarck, ND playing 24/7 in our household and on the farm.
The sensational music of Paul/Linda McCartney and Wings during the 70’s and 80’s, gave a young kid growing up “hope” of really being somebody… someday. After purchasing my first drumset at age 14, I remember wishing that there was some magical way I could sound like Paul McCartney’s drummer on standout songs like ‘Jet’ and ‘Juniors Farm’. Even as I got into a few ‘Long Haired Bands’ later on in the 80’s and 90’s, the great music of Paul and his Wings Over America still played a musical role in my style.
It is my true privilege to write this blog in honor of Paul McCartney and his family. I’m also happy to announce that our company, Worldwide Wholesale Warehouse and Sir Paul have a few things in common:
